According to Snopes it was a Zebra named Amelia(female) because it was already trained.

Really? ... That's interesting.
Guess things are not always what they appear to be.
Of course, I am REALLY a bunny rabbit who knows how to type ...
(You believe me ... don't you?!)

I believe you are right. So far, everything I check... says Mr. Ed ( the horse) couldn't act.

Re: Do you know if Mr. Ed, the talking horse, was actually a zebra?
Okay, something about this claim struck me as odd; maybe it's the fact that zebras have extremely obvious black and white stripes, and while at a distant glance, they do resemble horses, up close there are fairly obvious differences.
Well I looked up the story on Snopes, and sure enough, on one page, they did claim that Mr. Ed was in fact a zebra. They stated that the black and white stripes blended together to appear gray on black and white TV, which again struck me as odd. I grew up watching many natural geographic specials on black and white television, and I was all but certain I've seen zebras with their stripes before we ever had a color set.
So I checked a little further, and found the wikipedia page, as well as several others about Mr. Ed, none of which mentioned anything about a zebra. How could Snopes be wrong, I wondered, when they are almost always THE source for accurate reporting of urban myths and legends?
Well, my curiosity got the better of me, and I stumbled across another page on Snopes, which asserted that the rumor that Mister Ed was in fact a zebra was actually....a hoax! So how could Snopes be portraying two opposite sides to the same story? Well, it seems that name of the section where the zebra story is found, is in itself, a clue....

On the second link listed, you'll find the story about Mr. Ed being a zebra, but if you click on the link for additional information towards the bottom of the page, you get this:

Which explains the the hoax...

This whole story struck me as being rather strange.
Because ... ya know ... "a horse is a horse, of course of course ... "
