Millard South Shooting: Administrators Wounded, Suspect Dead

Suspect found dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound

Two administrators were shot at
Millard South High School Wednesday afternoon by a student later found
dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Principal Dr. Curtis Case is in
stable condition and assistant principal Dr. Vicki Kaspar is in
critical condition. The shooter was 17-year-old Robert Butler Jr., the
son of an Omaha police detective.

The rest of the story is in this link....

This happened today.... The student shot himself, but posted a note on Facebook before it all happened.

That's awful.
This is "the old fogey" in me talking ... I think kids today grow up too fast. They're given too much too soon, and they're not given the tools (the morals) to deal with all of it. They look for answers in the wrong places ... some think they can solve problems by force. WRONG! I'm thankful to have grown-up in more innocent and more civilized times. That's just my 2 cents worth ...

When I was a child and teen, I never heard of school shootings, teens cutting, teens with depression on such a grand scale, etc...
Jack, you have some good points... parents have become more slack or lenient with kids.. they tolerate more laziness, back talk, etc..
Kids get too much, have too much... cell phones, computers, tv games, etc... time wasters, in my opinion. So much has changed from when I was a teen... nobody would have thought or dared to shoot a school principal or teacher.
Tools kids have now... credit cards, cars, cell phones, social sites, etc... a lot of meaningless things that take up their time and not much more is required.

I agree with Jack... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
BUT... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I also blame a young society that is -almost completely-
disconnected from reality.
On T.V - and in their VIDEO games - not to mention today's movies' focus ! -
(They are "giving the public what it wants") - which means whatever genre
makes MONEY! - and kids are y far ! the biggest! - movie goers/fans...and
that is the way just-about EVERYthing is "handled".
The "hero" shoots/bludgeons - somehow destroys - the "bad" guy(s) -
and Viola ! - no more problem.
Until and unless more parents take back their responsibility
as a parent Yeah, I know - it's "hard" -
(and KIDS are having kids - at an alarming rate) and instill morals
(meaning the difference between right and wrong - ALL of it! )
and make SURE that EVERYONE understands - really understands! -
that T.V., Video games and MOVIES ! (Quentin Tarintino anyone [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]?) UGH.
are not "real life"
- and not real in any way... and teach them the word "fantasy"
- this will continue to get much worse.

Better yet, IMO, learn what their children are going to see !
Learn what the ratings ! (G, PG, PG! 13, X, XX, AND XXX! )
mean! and look! for the ratings!

And THEN... Do. not. let. them. go. ! to watch that crap !

Film-makers fight! - tooth-and-nail ! - to avoid ! receiving the
X, XX, and XXX ratings ! - so- IF the movie HAS one - it's serious.

Make SURE that the local movie theaters enforce the rating system.!
(NC-17 means that NO ONE under age 17 ! is allowed IN.
Period.
Unlike other ratings that mean:"Without a parent or an of-age Adult
accompanying said under-age person(s).
There is a very good reason for the ratings. I think.

A lot of thought and constant revision goes into the ratings.
I think "ratings " should be applied to - IN LARGE ! lettering- to video games.
Children-who-give-birth-to-children identify ! with children - very often.
When I consider that many of the children giving birth thought it
"Would be neat" /cool/ -whatever ... to have a real-life baby - something that is
ALL THEIRS - (instead of a doll, they mean) and it is understandable, if/when
Mom is 12 years old... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Certainly not "all" very young parents think that way... not nearly all -
*whew* -
but it is the ones who DO - and there are a lot of them -
that I am talking about here.

The adults have to be the adults - at any age - regardless of how inconvenient
that may be.
That's what I think. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

One point I want to make before I forget.. even the ratings on movies aren't enough... I check to see what's actually IN that movie. If I don't like it, it won't be seen, no matter what rating it has.

Hi! Yay! You're BACK! (?)
Anyway, of course YOU do. You are an actual PARENT.

YEAH. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Also, when the dividing ine is so narow -
(BIG! difference in Mom and Dad are 20-something and Mom - and maybe Dad-
are 15... )
If I ever even looked like I might maaaybe considering ! a smart-mouthed remark...
Oh Lord... let's just say it didn't happen. !
Now, the kids on TV COMMERCIALS! - talk to their parents - and one-another!
in a manner ... I can not! believe.
WHEN, exactly- did that become "Okay"?
My son is appalled... and I don't think I was nearly as strict with him
as my parents were with us.
(Oh-Okay, I know I wasn't. )
And The Brother and I were by no means ! "repressed". [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Wow! I had to check to make sure that wasn't ME posting about kids getting too much! They get too much and do too little and parents don't seem to keep track of them or worry when they don't show up on time. Is it just me or... do kids seem to complain more with so much given to them and so little to do?
